Straight Out Of Camera Week 7 "The Wet Stuff"

So, this weeks theme set by Dave "The Heed" Baker was "Water"
Another theme that was open to a myriad of possible interpretations. I did briefly consider going out and doing some shot's in the rain, but I'd have to take care because I'm not posh enough to have a weather sealed body ( me or the camera ) So I thought I'd push myself to do something newish

I was happily rigging up some water drop shots, and I wasn't even worried on this occasion about possible duplicates with the rest of the convicts taking part, because clearly no two shots are going to be the same when it comes to the chaos that are water drops.

But whilst grabbing my gear, I spotted my macro extension tubes, and changed my mind about the drops. I haven't done any macro stuff for a loooong time, and I've never done it with water, so this is what I produced.

I thought for some added interest I'd Stick the old SooC52 hashtag in there, and Yes it's done in camera. The text is a stencil over my DIY softbox, and the rest of the light, and because I was using tubes and was stopped down to f/16 to try and keep a decent focal plane there was A LOT of light needed, came from a slaved unit bounced of the ceiling
The drops were placed onto an old CD (That's an old data storage medium if yo were born after 2008) to give some nice light separation. To be honest, I wish I had a polariser because that would have made this shot even more interesting, but I'm too tight to buy one. So feel free to donate towards one, or preferably a macro lens because I'd quite like one of those too ;-)

Check out the stuff from the other guys because it's always good to see other interpretations. And if you don't I'll hunt you down ;-)

BRILLIANT!!! Love how you incorporated the #SooC52 in the image with no processing. Magnificent!

  2. Stunned. I am truly stunned. That is just fabulous how you "stamped" the #SOOC52 into the image by using your strobe. I really like the colors in this. I think you got a nice, full range of colors from the cd's. That was just a brilliant move. I am really wanting some equipment to do macro shots now.

    1. Thanks Bruce. My macro equipment is a set of extension tubes from Ebay, at a whopping $12 they were quite a good investment :-)

  3. Cool shot for sure. Really like the hastag in there, certainly add a extra element to the image that makes it that bit extra. CP filter... You know they are not that expensive and if push comes to show can always use those polarized sunglasses I am sure you have somewhere ;) I'd like a nice macro lens to. I'll not be to greedy just a 180mm 1:1 macro lens would work fine for me. ;)

    Well done on this image.

  4. Nicely done Pete, the hashtag in there is especially cool. I'm not fully sure how you even did that. I find it funny you mention people born after 2008. Could a 5 year old even read this?
It would be neat to see how this looks from further back. Those water drops look a lot like the glass drops that John used in his gumby shot earlier. Cool stuff.

    1. Cheers mate. I'll post a setup shot so you can see how I did the #SooC52 bit. And I get your point about the 5 year olds ! although I'm working on the assumption that my blog posts will still be around in a few years time ;-)
