This is just a quick post to show the setup for this weeks SOOC52 project. If you're interested then read on, if not, then what are you doing reading a photoblog ??
Ok, so the brief was "Utensils" and the constraints were "Straight out of camera" So I thought I'd shoot some of our cutlery. Mainly because it's quite interesting shape wise, and when you're using them it feels like you have some sort of muscular malfunction. not great for eating, but a nice shape to play with light on. I placed them on a sheet of glass, which in turn was on top of some white craft foam to provide a seamless backdrop.
Set-up was fairly simple as you can see from the picture below. The Key light is the DIY softbox (Made from a cereal box, some tinfoil [Aluminum for my American buddies who like to spell things differently] and some white paper) Then I needed a second light source to provide a specular highlight to show the shape of the fork handles. This just needed to be a flash bounced off a white surface, and the nearest thing to hand was a box previously filled with beer :-)
So thats it really, quite simple, you can see the finished image Here (go on...take a look)
Love all the DIY gear! Nice to see the behind-the-scenes to how you crafted this image.
ReplyDeleteI do the DIY stuff mainly to see if and how often I use it so that I can justify buying a "proper" one at a later date, Although sometimes my stuff does a better job :-)
DeleteLove the box of beer and that you specified that it was empty. Thanks for that! Also, thanks for explaining the how-to of this shot. Very interesting.
ReplyDeleteNo problem mate :-) and as for the box of beer, I'll use anything to hand to get the shot, I did some water drop stuff last year using a t-shirt as a backdrop :-)
