Straight Out Of Camera Week 6 "Green"

The theme for this week was chosen by John and was "Green". This is obviously a fairly wide open theme, and the things that went through my head were: The giant green bottle that I save my spare change in. But If I did that you'll all see how rich I am and I'd have to kill ya! OR, a house plant....but we don't have any, and I sure as hell wasn't going to start having them now just for this project. Or to shoot one of my son's Ben 10 toys. But I've been feeling out of sorts lately and I figured out it was because I was suffering from SPWS ! Self Portrait Withdrawal Syndrome is a serious condition affecting narcissistic photographers all over the world who don't feel right unless there are frequent images of themselves throughout their portfolio !

So it was selfie time. To tie it in with the green theme I thought I'd get some Gels out and change the colour of the light at source before I fired it through the light modifiers. I also liberated my green LED lights from the bicycle wheel I used for the "Light" theme for use as background interest. And this is the result. I wont bore you with the full details of lighting setup because I'll bung that in another post later on in the week. As always the below image is SOOC, I used the custom scene mode in camera to crank the contrast slightly and increase the saturation to make the greens really pop.

In other news....David "The Heed" Baker has joined us in our project. If you're on twitter check him out. If you're not, then you should be! The link to his stuff can be found below with the other misfits taking part.
Remember, please support photographers with SPWS all donations towards battling this terrible disease can be paid to me, and will be put towards beer helping self portrait addicts everywhere.

  1. Love the write up!! I guess I don't seem to be afflicted by that disorder thankfully.
The picture turned out nice, the background elements especially help the image.

I definitely do not suffer from this disorder. I'm the opposite having pictures taken of me gives me the shakes ;)

The first thing that comes to my mind is, "Don't make Pete angry. You wouldn't like him when he's angry." Clever and creative shot, Pete. I love the point lights in the background. It gives the image a lot of depth.

  4. Kinda got the Hulk vibe as well from this shot Pete. Very nice though, I really like the bokeh in the background, really adds to the shot.Your self portraits are all really well done. I don't suffer from the same disorder as you though, and I'm sure the world is glad of it! Haha!
